Parasta koko asiassa on se, että mekko on kierrätetty isoisoäitini ja äitini kautta, löytyi kellarista kun etsin muuta. Vaate on yhä hyvässä kunnossa, vuosikymmenistä huolimatta, ja puuvilla on säilynyt lerpsahtamatta. Minusta on todella hyvä, että vaatteet kestävät, mutten usko omieni juurikaan säilyvän jälkeeni. Ei sillä että tuhoaisin ne, mutta kankaiden laatu vain on niin paljon huonompi, samoin kuin ompeleiden. Ei vain kestä. Ja tämä pätee lähes kaikkiin vaatteisiin, hintaluokasta huolimatta. Uskon, että ne vaatteistani jotka kestävät sekä aika että käyttöä vielä kauan kun olen niistä luopunut, ovat olleet jo valmiiksi vanhoja minulle tullessaan.
It wasn't my intention to blog about fashion, but I wanted to show you my new dress. It's pretty close to perfection: with pockets and very comfy. I don't really like 3/4 length because it makes me look even shorter, but here it works. Also, apparently it is THE length for this season. All dresses in WSJ April issue were 3/4. I like this dress also because of it's history. I found it in our cellar when I was looking for something else and it has belonged to my mother and greatgrandmother before me. Of course there is a certain feeling of 60s and 70s there, but I find it quite contemporary still. Maybe if it was more of the 70s colour pallette I would think differently. When I got this dress I started to think how many of my clothes could last decades. For the most I believe the style is not an issue but the quality of fabric and seams. I'm pretty sure the only pieces that can last that long are some stuff I have bought second-hand. So basically like the dress. Nowadays everything just wears out, pretty much regardless of the price. Sad.
