Yksi syy, miksi lähdin lenkille pururadalle pääsiäislauantaina, oli valkovuokkojen etsintä. Kaksi vuotta sitten löysin pääisäisloman jälkeen muutaman valkovuokon ja kuten kaikki olemme biologian /ympäristötiedon tunneilla oppineet, valkovuokko leviää maavarren avulla, joten sen löytää vuosi toisensa perään samoilta paikoilta. Purtsia on myllätty aika lailla (siitä lisää tuonnempana) viime vuonna, joten en ollut varma onko niitä jäljellä enää. Huoli oli aiheeton, sillä tosi nopsaan löysin niitä ihan ilman erityistoimenpiteitä. Olen oikein tyytyväinen, olisin muuten ehkä kerännyt jotain matkaan mutta narsissit voivat vielä hyvin niin ei ole tarvis. Kuva saa riittää, ja kukkien katselu lenkillä!
On Easter Saturday when I went running I wanted to find some valkovuokko on campus. Wikipedia calls it Anemone nemorosa, and tells that common names are wood anemone, windflower, thimbleweed and smell fox. I don't have a clue how it really is known here (if at all?), that's why I did not include it in the title. If you know which one is the most common name, let me know. Anyway, my search was successful, as I could easily find couple of very good spots full of flowers!
Some of you might wonder why to make such a fuss about a flower. The thing is, to many finns it's a bit more than 'just a flower'. That is because 1) we do not have lots of wild flowers to begin with 2) we do not have planted daffodils and tulips everywhere 3) these anemone nemorosas are one of the first flowers we see in spring 4) usually people pick a bunch of them for mothers' day in May.
